122nd Vienna International Rowing Regatta

Our great tradition lives on! Since 1881, the WIENER RUDER VERBAND has been organizing the “Vienna International Rowing Regatta,” and from June 27–28, 2026, the New Danube will once again serve as the venue for this major sporting highlight in Vienna.

In 2026, this regatta will once again be organized under the leadership of Martin Bandera, Roman Arndorfer, and their dedicated team - passionate friends of the sport of rowing who have made it their mission to spread their enthusiasm for rowing far beyond the borders of Vienna. Together, we bring numerous national and international rowing clubs to Vienna to participate in this special event.

Vienna has been proud to serve as a hub for international rowing regattas on the New Danube since the 1991 World Rowing Championships. The Rowing Center at Steinsporn Bridge was built here and will also be the venue for VIRR 2026. Let’s keep Vienna’s great tradition as a regatta destination alive!

Team spirit, community, and solidarity are the fundamental values of rowing. Our goal is to help young people develop social skills - in keeping with our motto: “Moving forward faster together in the same boat.” This year, the focus is once again on youth rowing competitions.

The Vienna International Rowing Regatta is a well-established international sporting event held annually on the New Danube in Vienna. The regatta is known for its attractive racecourse on calm waters and attracts both national and international crews:

As for the disciplines, the classic rowing boat classes are typically contested there - in both Olympic and other categories.

Furthermore, the Empacher Youth Cup - a platform specifically for young talent - has been a regular part of the overall program in recent years. It is expected that this youth competition will be offered again in the current edition of the regatta to support young athletes and provide them with international competition experience.

This combination of high-caliber international competitions and targeted youth development makes the Vienna International Rowing Regatta an important event on the rowing calendar in Austria and Europe.
